If I were a magazine feature writer, I might use sound slides if the person's reason for being a feature was very visual. For example, if a painter was the subject of the feature, I might use sound slides to show their work and what style it is in. I would only use the sound slides if it was necessary. If the feature would be better as a story, I would do that. For example, If a soccer mom was the subject of the feature, the feature might not gain anything from the sound slides.
Even with a sound slide, in the case of the painter, I would write some sort of story to go with it. There are different styles of learning, and the same thing does not work for every person. While some people like pretty pictures, there are still some people who prefer to read what the pictures are about. With a short story in addition to the sound slide, I would be aiming to reach both of these people.
